"Dear Smile Pretty Misery,
What made you come up with that name? Smile Pretty Misery? What is the meaning behind it? I must know.

"Well Steve, I think I can answer this one for you. In the tradition of such great bands as Boston and Yes, we were going to name ourselves after a city. However, when we realized that both: A- We are from different places, and don't all like the same cities, and B- Yes is not a city, we decided to go a different route. We tried naming ourselves using a baby book, but kept clashing over whether the band should be confirmed or decide for itself when it was older. So we drew names from a hat. Everyone wrote down words and we drew them for about 6 hours. I say about because I went to go to the bathroom for about two of those hours. When I came back it had come to us, like a bolt of inspiration! Smile Pretty Misery. Al and Mike both like smiling, Chris is pretty, and I am utterly miserable. So Smile Pretty Misery. There you have it. It rolls off the tongue...like pablum. Smile Pretty Misery. We originally had it as one word, but spell check kept telling us we sucked, so we changed it to three words. We would have had four words, but I am bad at math as well. And that also gets kinda long winded. So there ya go. That's how I remember it.
